California shutters add beauty and value to your home. Most modern wood shutters are made from light weight hardwood with a selection of stains and paint colours. Some companies offer their products in several different woods such as oak or maple. One thing to watch for is the thickness of the louvers and frames. Some companies claim quality just because it is made from oak or some other hardwood but the thickness of the components tell the real story. These products are also available in custom stains. Another common material used in shutters these days is a wood composite. These are a more economical choice and are often a combination of a plywood core and MDF which is moisture resistant when sealed and painted.
The most popular shutters these days does seem to be vinyl. These have definitely evolved quite quickly. The vinyl is PVC or Poly-vinyl-chloride. The earlier versions of the vinyl shutters were toxic. Thankfully, this is no longer true. The virgin PVC that is used now by almost all manufacturers is free of volatile organic compounds making air quality safe for both children and seniors.
One of the reasons california shutters are so popular is price point and durability. They are very practical where pets and little chocolate fingers are present and they also help insulate from the heat and cold. The down side to that is they need to be closed and there is no view when trying to conserve energy.
